Corey Booker

Early Years

Corey Booker was born in Washington, D.C. on April 27th, 1969. He was raised in Harrington Park, New Jersey and attended Stanford University, where he received his B.A. in 1991. He then attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where he earned his Master of Arts in 1994. He then attended Yale Law School and received his J.D. in 1997.

Career

Booker began his political career in 1998 when he ran for the Newark City Council and won. He then served as the 36th Mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013. In 2013, Booker was elected to represent New Jersey in the United States Senate and has been reelected in 2014 and 2020.

Mayor of Newark

Corey Booker was the 36th Mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013. During his tenure, he successfully led the effort to create a public-private partnership to create more than 6,000 units of housing for low-income residents in Newark. He also worked to ensure Newark schools were fully funded and to improve the city's overall economic health. In addition, he successfully passed the first ever municipal paid-sick leave law in the nation. His tenure as Mayor of Newark was marked by a strong commitment to social justice and civil rights.

Senator of New Jersey

Corey Booker was elected to represent New Jersey in the United States Senate in 2013, and has been reelected in 2014 and 2020. During his time in office, he has been a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, environmentalism, economic justice, and healthcare reform. He has introduced a number of bills to improve the lives of everyday Americans, including the First Step Act, which reformed the federal criminal justice system. Booker has been a tireless advocate for social justice and civil rights, and his legacy in the Senate will continue to inspire and motivate future generations.
