Ryan Coogler

Early Years

Ryan Coogler was born in 1986 and raised in California. He studied film and creative writing at the University of Southern California, where he was inspired by the works of great African American philosophers. His passion for art and philosophy was evident from an early age.

Career

Ryan Coogler began his career as a filmmaker in 2013 with his acclaimed first feature film, Fruitvale Station. He has since gone on to direct Black Panther (2018), Creed (2015) and Wrong Answer (2021). He is also the founder of the BlackOut Collective, a collective of black filmmakers, artists and curators.
